May 24, 2013 - The Department of the Interior's Bureau of Reclamation has announced $20.8 million in water and energy-efficiency grants for 44 water conservation projects in 11 states throughout the west where drought, growing populations, energy demands and basic environmental needs are stressing finite water supplies.
The WaterSMART grants will help stretch water supplies and improve water and energy efficiencies in communities throughout the west to support sustainable uses of limited resources. Since its creation in 2010 under Secretary Salazar, WaterSMART has provided more than $159 million in funding to non-federal partners, including water districts, municipalities, irrigation districts and universities. Projects are evaluated based on how well they conserve water, incorporate renewable energy, contribute to water supply sustainability, or address the water-energy nexus. Recipients must match the federal grant funding by at least 50 percent. read more>>>
24 May 2013 - The leasing arrangement will focus primarily on test and demonstration projects in waters around the UK
Following a recent industry-engagement exercise, the Crown Estate is to lease more of its sites in UK waters around the British coastline to wave and tidal projects in order to encourage and accelerate technology development. The sites will be made available for test and demonstration projects and the arrangement adds to the way in which the Crown Estate is supporting growth in the wave and tidal sector, including a possible investment of up to £20 million for the UK’s first wave and tidal stream array projects. read more>>>

29.05.2013 - The joint venture juwi Shizen Energy Inc. connected its first rooftop PV-system to the grid. 300 households will from now on be provided with clean electricity.
Exactly 4,088 solar modules and around four weeks of construction works – these are the hard facts of the rooftop photovoltaic system in Kumamoto on the Japanese island of Kyushu. The photovoltaic plant was developed and constructed jointly by the juwi group and Shizen Energy Inc. Now the plant is in operation. The photovoltaic installation has a total capacity of around one megawatt. Per year, the rooftop system produces approximately one million kilowatt hours of clean electricity. read more>>>

May 21, 2013 - As the military turns to renewable energy to power its installations, microgrids are expected to become a key component of the Pentagon’s approach for reducing its reliance on fossil fuels and improving energy security. Microgrids allow installations to manage renewable energy sources locally and, at the same time, help protect them from potential disruptions caused by utility transmission and distribution lines, and terrorism.
At next month’s Defense Communities National Summit, attendees will have an opportunity to tour a working microgrid at the FDA Federal Research Center White Oak campus in Silver Spring, Md. Sustainable Energy for All’s first Global Tracking Framework (GTF) report will be launched online and at the Vienna Energy Forum on Tuesday, May 28, 2013. The Report was compiled by a team of experts from 15 agencies and led by the World Bank Group and the International Energy Agency. It presents a snapshot of the energy status of countries with respect to access, action on energy efficiency and renewable energy, as well as energy consumption. It also sheds light on high impact action areas that will help achieve Sustainable Energy for All’s three objectives.

26 May 2013 - Green campaigners and industry experts have hit out at the government's plans to block new EU-wide renewable energy targets, which they say are essential to cutting greenhouse gas emissions and creating a green economy.
Ed Davey, the energy and climate secretary, is to set out on Monday the UK's position on energy and climate change targets within Europe. He will oppose any new goals on increasing the share of renewable energy in electricity generation, but will argue for climate change goals that would be tougher than any yet agreed in an international forum. read more>>>

May 16, 2013 - Today, BYD announced the launch of Hong Kong’s first all-electric taxi fleet, BYD e6 electric cross-over sedan at a launch ceremony held at the Hong Kong Science Park. BYD closely collaborated with Sime Darby Motors Group (Sime Darby), Hong Kong Taxi & Public Light Bus Association Limited, The Link Management Limited, CLP Power Hong Kong Limited and The Hong Kong Electric Company Limited to place into service the first batch of 45, BYD e6 Taxis. BYD also announced that the e6 “Taxi version” and e6 “Premier” sedan were now officially on sale in Hong Kong. Mr. John Tsang Chun-wah, the GBM, JP, Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Regional Government welcomed BYD to Hong Kong and reaffirmed his commitment to “promoting environmental sustainability by laying the foundation for Hong Kong to become a zero emissions city.”
